The Challenge

In the early 2010s, wireless charging was still more of an exciting idea than something people used daily. Although Qi technology had started to emerge, most products were either bulky, experimental, or tied to specific devices. The dream of a truly portable, cable-free charging solution felt far away. Our goal is to create a compact Qi-powered charger that people could easily slip into a pocket, place on any surface, and use right away without hassle. The challenge was not just technical; it was about changing the user experience around a technology that was still new and making it feel natural, easy, and ready for everyday life.

Our Approach

We began by seeing the charger not as a piece of desk equipment, but as a lifestyle item—something that should feel as simple and refined as the smartphone it supported. Through several iterations, we shaped Qimini Pocket into a slim, rounded form with soft edges that made it comfortable to hold and easy to carry. Its minimal design allowed it to blend smoothly into any setting while still looking modern.

Behind the aesthetic look was a significant engineering effort. We developed the entire electronics system, including the PCBA and firmware, to ensure efficient and stable Qi wireless power transfer in a very compact form. We paid close attention to coil alignment, heat behavior, and power control to guarantee reliable performance, something that was challenging at the time. Each prototype was tested for both functionality and user behavior: how the device reacted when a phone was slightly off center, how quickly it started charging, and how warm it became during long use.

As the product approached its final version, we readied it for certification and manufacturing, setting up strict quality control processes and designing packaging that reflected its simplicity and premium feel. Every step supported the main goal: to deliver a wireless charging experience that felt easy, portable, and enjoyable.

The Result

When Qimini Pocket launched, it quickly gained recognition as one of the first truly portable wireless chargers on the market. Its compact design, reliable performance, and user-friendly experience helped bring wireless charging into everyday life long before it became common. Users appreciated how easily it fit into their routines—slip it into a bag, place it on a desk, set a phone on top, and charging just happened. There was no cable clutter, no set-up, no friction.

The product's success extended beyond user adoption. Qimini Pocket received international recognition, winning a Red Dot Design Award, a Good Design Award, and a CES Engineering Award. These honors reflected its technical achievements and the thoughtful design that made wireless charging feel accessible rather than experimental.

Looking back, Qimini Pocket marked an important moment in the evolution of mobile accessories. It helped set expectations for what wireless charging could be—simple, stylish, and genuinely freeing. The project became a milestone for us because it showed that innovation doesn’t always come from adding more complexity; sometimes it comes from simplifying things until the experience feels almost invisible. Qimini Pocket captured that idea, proving that a small, unobtrusive object can change the way people interact with their devices.
