The Challenge
As ibebot’s ecosystem of smart environmental sensors grew, users wanted a way to connect everything, like their AirComfort and SoilQuality devices, into one unified system.
However, each device worked independently, and wireless connectivity often had range limitations. We needed to build a central hub that could connect sensors through Wi-Fi, sync environmental data, allow remote access, and enable control regardless of users location.
Our Approach
We started by identifying what users really needed: stability, convenience, and control.
"What makes a smart system really smart? For us, the key was connection and control."
With that in mind, we designed the ibebot Hub (Smart Plug) to be the center of the system, linking multiple devices seamlessly through Wi-Fi.
Our engineering team developed both the hardware and software. This device connects AirComfort and SoilQuality sensors through Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and links them to the cloud using Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n at 2.4GHz. Through ibebot App and Dashboard+, users can monitor temperature, humidity, and soil conditions in real time, wherever they are .
To ensure global compatibility, the hub was made with region-specific plugs (UK, EU, US, and AU). Each plug has a soft LED indicator to easily show the ON/OFF status.
We also went further. We aimed for it to do more than just gather data; it also needed to take action. That’s where the main socket control came in. Users can remotely turn the plug ON or OFF through the ibebot Growers App, or use the Hub Timer feature via Dashboard+ to automate tasks like turning on lights, fans, or irrigation systems.
The design was simple, compact, and durable, fitting well in homes, offices, or greenhouses. Its clean look and easy interface reflected the user-friendly approach behind the entire ibebot product line.
Every stage, from prototype to certification and mass production, focused on ensuring reliable connectivity, safety compliance, and ease of use. The result was a hub that operates quietly and reliably.
The Result
The ibebot Smart Plug became more than just a connector; it became the center of a smarter ecosystem. By linking devices and offering remote control, it changed how users engage with their environment, from monitoring data to responding to it in real time.
Users can now view live readings, track trends, and automate devices directly from the ibebot App or Dashboard+. Whether it’s adjusting a grow light, managing humidity, or simply checking conditions while away, the Smart Plug makes everything seamless.
For our team, the project was about more than just engineering; it was about building trust through simplicity. The Smart Plug demonstrates how good design and thoughtful integration can transform standalone devices into a connected, intelligent system that empowers users to manage their spaces.
